1927. The ruins of WWI have given rise to a world of growth and social change on an unprecedented scale. A generation of enthusiasts are embracing the bright side of life. They are the prophets of a new Golden Age; an age of iconic events and people: The Roaring Twenties.
In Highclere, Henry and Catherine, the 6th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, are enjoying glorious years as parents of two lovely children. Their family home Highclere Castle is full of life and the Jazz Age in full swing all around them.
Five years earlier, on 17 July 1922, the young American Catherine Wendell married Henry Lord Porchester, heir to the 5th Earl of Carnarvon at St Margaret’s Westminster.
That exact same year, on 6 November 1922, Henry’s father receives a cable from Howard Carter confirming that after years of fruitless excavations in Egypt, they have made a wonderful discovery in the Valley of the Kings.
